A sweet snack for your sweet pup! 🍠
If you love spoiling your dog with something tasty and healthy, these homemade sweet potato dog treats are the perfect choice. Packed with vitamins and fiber, sweet potatoes make a natural, low-fat treat that supports digestion and keeps tails wagging.
Your pup will say “YAMMY!” as they munch away on this wholesome snack.
Ingredients
-
1 medium sweet potato (peeled and diced)
-
1 cup rice flour (or almond flour for a grain-free version)
-
¾ cup rice flour (or regular flour)
-
1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
-
1 egg, lightly beaten (or 3 tablespoons applesauce as an egg substitute)
💡 Tip: If your dog is sensitive to grains, use all rice flour or almond flour. Applesauce adds moisture and sweetness while keeping the recipe egg-free.
Instructions
Step 1: Prep
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly coat with nonstick spray.
Step 2: Boil the sweet potato
Place the diced sweet potato in a saucepan with about 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil and cook for 7–9 minutes, until the pieces are soft enough to pierce with a fork. Drain well.
Step 3: Mash and mix
Mash the sweet potatoes until smooth. Stir in the flaxseed meal and egg (or applesauce) until the dough starts to form.
Step 4: Roll and cut
Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes, or simply cut into bite-sized squares.
Step 5: Bake
Place the treats on the baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool completely before serving.
